About Nilo

Nilo is a collaborative platform designed to empower creative expression in 3D content across desktop, mobile, Discord, and Telegram. By leveraging generative AI, Nilo enables Generation Alpha (13-18 year olds) to generate 3D assets, characters, code, and animations directly from text or images, significantly lowering the barrier to entry for 3D creation.

You will be joining a world-class team with experience from Fortnite, Fable, Star Wars, Warcraft, and Adobe. Our founder led the Unreal Engine 5 optimization team and was the first engineer at Polystream through to acquisition. Others on the team helped scale VRChat from zero to 100,000 users and raised over $100 million, and built creative tools used by more than 26 million people at Adobe. Nilo is an alumnus of A16Z's Speedrun program and recently closed its seed round with backing from Supercell Investments, Flex Capital, KFund, Script Capital, and a group of world-renowned angel investors. We are builders, designers, and game-makers creating a new category for the next generation of 3D creators.

The role

We are looking for a Technical Artist who can bridge cutting-edge AI/ML pipelines with real-time 3D content production. You will be the connective tissue between research-grade generative tools and a product that needs to feel magical to everyday creators. This role is ideal for someone who has spent time in high-end production (VFX, games, or XR) but is drawn to the frontier of procedural generation and AI-assisted content creation.

You will have an outsized impact by

  • Design and build procedural content generation pipelines that power Nilo's AI-driven world-building tools.
  • Develop and integrate ML/GenAI workflows (for example 3D reconstruction, material decomposition, and layout generation) into a browser-based realtime engine.
  • Create tooling and asset pipelines that translate AI outputs into production-quality 3D content at scale.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering on renderer capabilities, performance constraints, and content delivery in a WebGL/browser environment.
  • Prototype and evaluate emerging techniques, including Gaussian splatting, diffusion-based generation, and LLM-driven scene composition, for product applicability.
  • Establish quality benchmarks and best practices for AI-generated 3D assets across geometry, materials, and animation.
  • Help define the technical art direction as the platform scales, ensuring generated content is visually cohesive and performant.

What we are looking for

  • 5+ years of experience as a Technical Artist, Technical Art Director, or in a similar pipeline/tooling-focused role.
  • Deep hands-on experience with procedural content generation tools (Houdini, Substance, or equivalent).
  • Working knowledge of realtime 3D engines (Unreal, Unity, or web-based equivalents like Three.js / WebGL).
  • Demonstrated experience integrating ML or GenAI techniques into art production pipelines (for example 3D reconstruction, text-to-3D, or procedural layout generation).
  • Strong understanding of 3D asset fundamentals: geometry, materials, shading, lighting, and optimization.
  • Ability to work across the stack: comfortable writing scripts, building tools, and communicating with both artists and engineers.
  • Strong ownership and the ability to anticipate needs before they are asked.

Bonus points if

  • Experience with browser-based or WebGL rendering pipelines.
  • A background in VFX, AAA games, or XR production at studios known for technical excellence.
  • Familiarity with Gaussian splatting, NeRFs, or other neural 3D representation methods.
  • Experience with ComfyUI, diffusion model pipelines, or LLM-based tool orchestration.
  • A track record of open-source contributions or public-facing technical work.
  • Early-stage startup experience, where scope is broad and iteration is fast.
